Synopsis[]
It's not long before Dolly and Jessie are arguing in the attic bedroom. Jessie insists that she can't break her promise to Mrs Acaster to see the wedding is planned right and this includes getting Dolly baptised, which must be done if the wedding is to take place.
In the village it is Mr Moeketsi's first day at school but it turns out to be an eventful one. At the Woolpack the gas pipe is now deeper. Amos comes out of the pub with lemonade for the digging lad. Sam arrives to watch which annoys Abraham who demands spectators stand back. But at that moment something appears at the bottom of the hole. It's a human skull!
